PICHICHI RACE: BENZEMA HITS BRACE

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been in good form since he returned from his injury layoff earlier this month. The Frenchman scored two goals at the weekend to boost his chances of winning the Pichichi Award at the end ofthe season. The Pichichi Award is given to the highest goalscorer at the end of the season and the Real Madrid striker is in the picture ahead of the final ten games in the Spanish top flight. Benzema scored a fantastic brace as Real Madrid secured an impressive 3-1 win over home team Celta Vigo. The brace took Benzema to 17 goals on the scoring chart and he’s now third behind the duo of Atletico Madrid hitman Luis Suarez and Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi.

Benzema was instrumental to the Real Madrid quest to get the win over Celta Vigo and move above Barcelona and into second place as well as to move within three points of Atletico Madrid at the La Liga summit. Real Madrid substitute Marco Asensio scored the third goal for Real Madrid during the game. Real Madrid were the first in action of the three title contenders at the weekend. The other two teams namely Barcelona and Atletico Madrid later secured respective wins to push Real Madrid back to third place on the league standings as far as the Spanish La Liga is concerned.Barcelona were able to navigate a difficult trip to Anoeta to face Real Sociedad after the big win over the Basque club. Real Sociedad were on the receiving end of a mauling at the hands of the Catalan giants. Lionel Messi and Sergino Dest scored two goals each as Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 6-1 to move above Real Madrid and back into second place. Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann are the other goalscorers for Barcelona. On their part, Atletico Madrid defeated Alaves 1-0 at home through the second half strike from Luis Suarez. The league table toppers had goalkeeper Jan Oblak to thank for the points after his heroic save from the penalty spot late in the game.

MADRID PLAYERS OUT OF VALLADOLID CLASH

As many as seven Real Madrid players will miss the Spanish La Liga clash with Real Valladolid this weekend due to various injury issues. Real Valladolid play hosts to defending champions Real Madrid on Sunday with the visitors battling to retain the title they won last season. Real Madrid have Atletico Madrid to contend with most especially if they are to retain the Spanish La Liga title.


Arch rivals Barcelona are also in the title race. As things stand, Atletico Madrid have six more points than Real Madrid and have played one less game than the holders meaning that they could potentially move nine points ahead of Real Madrid at the end of their outstanding game. For now, Real Madrid need to make the most of the dropped points from Atletico Madrid. The league leaders have dropped four points from the last three games and this has given the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona hope in the race for the title. (more…)

MADRID DUO OUT OF CUP GAME

Real Madrid will be without two of their first choice defenders for the Spanish Copa Del Rey clash with Alcoyano who play their club football in Segunda B, the second tier of Spanish club football. The Real Madrid duo of club skipper Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajalwon’t be available for the cup game with Alcoyano due to injury. According to Diario AS, Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal didn’t train with the rest of the Real Madrid squad as a result of injury and that they would both miss the Copa Del Rey clash with Alcoyanolater this week.


Dani Carvajal and Sergio Ramos picked up knocks from the past two games against Celta Vigo and Athletic Bilbao. Real Madrid faced Celta Vigo in the league, while the Athletic Bilbao game was in the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals. Sergio Ramos was a doubt for the Athletic Bilbao game in the Spanish Super Cup and he had to leave the stadium wrapped up in a bandage and limping at the end of the game. (more…)

REAL MADRID GOALKEEPER LEADS NGCONGCA

 

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has led the tributes following the unfortunate passing of one of his former teammates. South African football was thrown into a state of morning with the sudden death of former national team player Anele Ngcongca.


Ex-Genk of Belgium and MamelodiSundowns defender died in an auto crash in the city of Durban, South Africa in the early hours of Monday, November 23, 2020.Anele Ngcongca died at the age of 33. The defender was due to be unveiled as a new signing for South African club Amazululater on Monday. He was expected to sign on loan for Amazulu from MamelodiSundowns and the two clubs has already confirmed the transfer in a joint statement.

BARCELONA FACE A HUGE TASK BOUNCING BACK

 

Luis Suarez says Barcelona are now relying on other teams to win the title race in La Liga if they are to defend the league title they won last year.


The Uruguayan forwardscored twice in Saturday’s clash against Celta Vigo but it was not enough for the defending champions who dropped points for the second time in 3 matches and has left many questioning whether the current coach has what it takes to win trophies.

BARCA EYE REAL MADRID TEEN SENSATION

Barcelona have emerged as a serious contender for the signature of teen star Cesar Gelabert. In a twist of events the Blaugrana have now declared their interest in the highly rated academy product of their old rivals Real Madrid.

The youngster is in loggerhead with parent club Real Madrid over a long-term contract extension. The future of the player is uncertain, and Barcelona are watching the player’s contract issue with keen interest. KARIUS TO RETURN TO LIVERPOOL

Besiktas have confirmed that on loan Liverpool goalkeeper will return to the club at the end of his two-year loan spell. Besiktas have unsurprisingly rejected the chance to sign the German on a permanent deal.


Karius has been with Besiktas since 2018, he left after falling down the pecking order in Anfield. He was dropped by Liverpool after a series of costly mistakes, most notably, his performance in the champions league final against Real Madrid, he was directly responsible for two avoidable goals. He dropped a ball on Benzema’s foot to score the opening goal and he also failed to deal with a routine long distance shot from Bale. He has since been replaced by Allison. The Brazilian has proven to be the final piece of Jurgen Klopps’s side, as they have since won the Champions League and they are on course to end a three decade wait for a maiden premier league title.

JAMES RODRIGUEZ SET TO RETURN TO REAL MADRID

After sustaining an injury against Atletico Bilbao, Real Madrid attacking midfielder James Rodriguez has been on the sidelines ever since. The Colombia international missed the El Clasico as a result and is set to miss all fixtures till the end of the year.


James completed an impressive loan stint at Bayern Munich and as a result was called back to the Bernabeu. Marco Asensio’s pre-season injury knockout opened the Colombian’s way back into the starting eleven. Little did he know his own injury spell was somewhere around the corner.

MADRID MUST BEAT LEGANES

When a football club is losing, the only way to get fans to care is by winning. A lot of folks will regurgitate mantras about sticking with “your” team no matter the result they are bringing in, about tradition, faith, hope, belief and just about every other nonsense people who should be somewhere acting like bible salesmen use in deceiving close folks and most importantly themselves

Since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid, Los Blancos have morphed up into nothing but a bunch of losers. What makes it worse is that the person they thought will replace the Portuguese – Gareth Bale – or the person they thought could step into his boots and wear his shirt – Eden Hazard – have all spectacularly failed at it.

COLEMAN BACKS BALE AT MADRID

Former Wales coach Chris Coleman has responded to claims that Gareth Bale did not immerse himself in the Real Madrid setup. Coleman revealed that the former Tottenham star speaks “perfect” Spanish, canceling out accusations in the media that the forward refused to learn the language after many years.

The 30-year old is expected to feature on Wednesday when Madrid play PSG in the Champions League. The player is mending his relationship with Zinedine Zidane as they try to work better in the Frenchman’s second tenure. Coleman addressed peculations about Bale, saying the player orders food and greets fans in Spanish.
