Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been in good form since he returned from his injury layoff earlier this month. The Frenchman scored two goals at the weekend to boost his chances of winning the Pichichi Award at the end ofthe season. The Pichichi Award is given to the highest goalscorer at the end of the season and the Real Madrid striker is in the picture ahead of the final ten games in the Spanish top flight. Benzema scored a fantastic brace as Real Madrid secured an impressive 3-1 win over home team Celta Vigo. The brace took Benzema to 17 goals on the scoring chart and he’s now third behind the duo of Atletico Madrid hitman Luis Suarez and Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi.

Benzema was instrumental to the Real Madrid quest to get the win over Celta Vigo and move above Barcelona and into second place as well as to move within three points of Atletico Madrid at the La Liga summit. Real Madrid substitute Marco Asensio scored the third goal for Real Madrid during the game. Real Madrid were the first in action of the three title contenders at the weekend. The other two teams namely Barcelona and Atletico Madrid later secured respective wins to push Real Madrid back to third place on the league standings as far as the Spanish La Liga is concerned.Barcelona were able to navigate a difficult trip to Anoeta to face Real Sociedad after the big win over the Basque club. Real Sociedad were on the receiving end of a mauling at the hands of the Catalan giants. Lionel Messi and Sergino Dest scored two goals each as Barcelona beat Real Sociedad 6-1 to move above Real Madrid and back into second place. Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann are the other goalscorers for Barcelona. On their part, Atletico Madrid defeated Alaves 1-0 at home through the second half strike from Luis Suarez. The league table toppers had goalkeeper Jan Oblak to thank for the points after his heroic save from the penalty spot late in the game.

As things stand, Real Madrid have 60 points and they are behind Barcelona (62 points) and Atletico Madrid (66 points) ahead of the final games of the season.
